A Brief Summary of the Robert Hadden Sexual Abuse Case

Former gynecologist Robert Hadden worked for prestigious Manhattan hospitals and medical offices in New York City. These include Columbia University Irving Medical Center, the New York-Presbyterian Hospital, and their affiliated hospitals. He was also an Assistant Clinical Professor of OB-GYN at the Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons.

The U.S. Department of Justice reported that the disgraced doctor had been sexually abusing patients for decades. The press release stated that Hadden sexually assaulted multiple victims from 1993 to 2012, but his unlawful sexual abuse dates back to as early as 1987 and as late as 2016.

Hadden used a wicked process on vulnerable patients that entailed developing a trusting relationship with them, only to later exploit and manipulate them for his sexual gratification. Hadden attempted to deceive his victims into believing that he was providing them with medical care when, in reality, he was subjecting them to increasingly abusive conduct during medical examinations.

In June 2012, a former patient complained to the police about Hadden licking her private parts during a medical examination. Numerous complaints and accusations of sexual misconduct against him followed in the years that ensued, forcing him to stop practicing in August 2012.

The Manhattan Supreme Court indicted the sexual predator on six counts of third-degree sexual abuse, criminal sex act, and forcible touching in June 2014. Hadden pleaded guilty to only two charges but escaped prison time thanks to this plea deal with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office in 2016. The New York State Court made him register as a sex offender and surrender his medical license.

In September 2020, the criminal doctor was indicted on six counts of enticing and inducing victims to cross state lines under promises of providing medical services. These charges involved his former patients, including five adults and a minor. Overall, Hadden’s sexual abuse affected countless women, including pregnant women and multiple minors.

Hadden’s federal trial began on January 24, 2023, and he was convicted of four federal sex trafficking charges, each carrying a maximum sentence of 20 years. The sexual violator will be sentenced on April 25.

Hadden’s former patients and federal prosecutors pleaded for his early detention, calling him a danger to the community. New York Judge Richard Berman approved their request on February 1, 2023, and remanded the disgusting doctor to custody while awaiting sentencing and prison time for his federal charges.
