An Overview of Robert Hadden's Crimes

Robert Hadden sexually assaulted his former patients between 1987 and 2012.

During this time, he committed multiple counts of forcible touching, de facto sexual trafficking, and other crimes punishable by criminal statutes and able to pursued in civil litigation.

He spent over two decades sexually abusing patients in various prestigious Manhattan hospitals.

These hospitals are affiliated with Columbia University:Columbia University Irving Medical Center and the New York Presbyterian Hospital.

In 2016, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office alleged Hadden of multiple counts of sexual abuse.

Hadden issued a guilty plea where he confessed to enticing victims who sought professional medical care to cross state lines.

Following his confession, the Manhattan Supreme Court found him guilty on all counts.

Because of a plea deal, Hadden avoided prison time but surrendered his medical license.

Following his conviction, Hadden was arrested again in 2020 on multiple federal charges.

He was indicted on these charges in early 2023, and now awaits sentencing.

Hadden’s four federal charges carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison each.

Robert Hadden will likely spend the rest of his life in prison.

“If Hadden Is Already Convicted, Can I Still File a Civil Lawsuit?”

This is a question we encounter from victims frequently, and it’s one that we always give an affirmative answer to.

Despite Hadden’s recent conviction on January 24, 2023, you can still file a civil lawsuit.

In civil litigation, victims on Robert Hadden are able to file suit against the institutions that allowed the abuse to occur.

Keep this in mind. Hadden spent three decades sexually abusing patients.

There’s no possible way that he could have done this for that long without help from the inside — and investigations prove that Columbia University and its affiliates aided and enabled his actions.

Columbia University did everything it could to cover up Hadden’s sexual assault of patients.

The university concealed Hadden’s crimes through several strategies, from manipulating patients to reassigning Hadden to multiple clinics.

Columbia University also discouraged victims from reporting their abuse to the police.

This was a key element in the university’s “Catch and Kill” strategy.

Under this strategy, the university’s legal department would reach out to victims seen by Hadden at the Columbia University Medical Center and New York Presbyterian Hospital.

The department would then offer victims settlements, but there’s a catch.

Victims had to sign non-disclosure agreements that made patients believe that they were barred them from reporting Hadden’s abuse to authorities and seeking legal assistance.

The extensive cover-up of Hadden’s sexual assault makes Columbia University and its affiliated hospitals complicit in his crimes.

As a result, victims are filing civil claims against the university and the hospitals affiliated with it.

You can still file a civil lawsuit if you were sexually abused by Robert Hadden.

If you are unsure about whether or not you have a civil case, don’t hesitate to reach out.
